Cafe Moose (Ballard)

Finding Persimmon closed, my boyfriend and I debated.

“There’s always the cult,” he tried. But I will not eat vegetarian mush when I’m in the mood for good fried eggs. The line at the Dish was insane, especially for 10am on a friday. He looked over at me, “Cafe Moose?”

I love Cafe Moose. We both love Cafe Moose. Everyone should love Cafe Moose. But strangely when the line was threatening to fall into Leary at the Dish, there were exactly 6 people at Cafe Moose. And the food was, as usual, amazing.

I had the Huevos Rancheros, an entree that has become a Denny’s standard, but here it’s served with a homemade smoky salsa, fresh avocado, and cotija cheese, not to mention a fair heap of sour cream. It really is astounding, the salsa tastes of mystery, the cotija of mexican tiendas. My boyfriend’s american scramble (bacon, cheddar and spinach) had me reaching across the table with my fork.

Their coffee is rich and dark (imported from mexico, even in a city that drowns in good coffee) and they have a bevy of fresh juices. And their chorizo. I couldn’t do it today, but believe me. If my boyfriend had gotten it I would’ve stolen his plate.

I opened the menu to discover an even more amazing thing…they serve dinner!
