Sugar

I so wanted this to be a lunch place. I work around the corner.

I sent Sheela a link to the website. “They have sandwiches! Let’s go for lunch.”

By the time we walked in at 1pm the sandwiches looked a little grizzly. French bread with cheese that had meted long ago and was now solidified. Strips of turkey with rosemary. They tasted really good though, much better than they looked. It was really good cheese, good bread. Just so few choices.

To be fair, Sugar is not a lunch place. It’s a bakery. And what a bakery. The walls are pink stripes, alternating dark and light pink. There are pink beads and pink paintings. It’s like eating in a cupcake.

After our sandwiches we gave in and headed back to the bakery case. As we stood there they brought out fresh hot chocolate truffle brioche.

They were wonderful. Soft and oozing with dark chocolate. We also had a little lemon tart, which was quite nice. A beautifully crips pate sucre crust.

The case wasn’t very full. Several plates with just one scone. But maybe that’s a good sign. They only opened a month ago and they’re already clearing the plates by lunchtime.

I have high hopes that they’ll expand that lunch menu, add some salads. In the meantime I know where I can get a good brioche in the morning. Oh and did I mention? They make their own marshmallows!
